EVALUASI TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN MAHASISWA TINGKAT TIGA DIPLOMA III OPTOMETRI STIKES DHARMA HUSADA TENTANG ANATOMI MATA
Abstract
Understanding ocular anatomy is a fundamental competency that optometry students must master as the foundation for comprehensive eye examinations and eye care services. This study aimed to evaluate the level of knowledge of third-year students enrolled in the Diploma III Optometry Program at STIKes Dharma Husada Bandung regarding ocular anatomy. A quantitative descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach was conducted. The sample consisted of 34 students selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a validated closed-ended questionnaire comprising 10 multiple-choice questions and analyzed descriptively using frequency distributions and percentages. The findings revealed that the students' overall level of knowledge was relatively low, with a mean score of 43%. A total of 73.5% of respondents demonstrated poor knowledge, 17.7% had moderate knowledge, and only 8.8% achieved a good level of knowledge. Based on anatomical domains, the lowest level of understanding was observed in the anterior segment of the eye (91% poor category), followed by the posterior segment (64.5%), whereas knowledge of the extraocular muscles was comparatively better. These findings indicate the need for curriculum evaluation and the implementation of more innovative and interactive teaching strategies, including the use of visual learning media, three-dimensional anatomical models, and digital simulation technologies, to improve ocular anatomy comprehension among optometry students.
